AAT LEVEL 3 

The aim of this qualification is to provide a more advanced knowledge of accounting principles and concepts.
 
There are 5 assessments including the case study.

- Management accounting; costing (MMAC)
- Advanced bookkeeping (AVBK)
- Final accounts preparation (FAPR)
- Indirect tax (ITAX)
- Case study (AVSY) - including ethics and spreadsheets

This qualification expands the skills and knowledge of experienced bookkeepers, or those who have already qualified at level 2, have achieved an accountancy A level or who have completed the introductory bookkeeping course. 
 
Direct entry to level 3 should be discussed with the tutor to make sure that the candidate has the required basic skills before proceeding. 
 
The AAT skillcheck  which can be found at (AAT) may also be helpful for students who are not sure of the correct entry level for them.
    

AAT LEVEL 4

Level 4 adds more detail to your accounting knowledge and completes your AAT qualification. 
 
Once you have the required work experience you may become a full member of the AAT. 
 
Completion of level 4 is a stand alone qualification but can also be a stepping stone to a further accountancy qualification. 
 
Once completed, level 4 will allow a student to fast track to the professional stage of ICAEW (after completion of the principles of law paper),  the Fundamentals stage of ACCA or the Operational stage of CIMA.
 
The papers covered at level 4 are four compulsory papers and two optional papers as follows:
 
Compulsory papers:
- Managing accounting and decision control (MDLC)
- Management accounting; budgeting (MABU)
- Financial statements (FSLC)
- Case study (PSY)
 
Optional papers (choice of two from):
 
- Business tax (BTX)
- Personal tax (PTX)
- External auditing (ETAU)
 

AAT EXAMS

AAT assessments are mostly in the form of computer based exams ranging from 90 to 150 minutes duration.
 
The case study assessments are 3 hours and are available at fixed dates for each level.

First Intuition offers AAT computer based you can book directly at our study centre in Reading.
 
There is no set pass mark for the AAT exams, though the competency threshold is around 70%.
